Managed PostgreSQL

Managed Postgres in Europe

PostgreSQL 15 to 18 on European hardware, run by a European company. Nightly off-site backups, a three-node HA cluster on the larger plans, and your app's DATABASE_URL injected on deploy — at a flat monthly price with the storage included.

From €4/mo, backups and storage included. One Starter Postgres per user is free, with no card and no expiry.

On every plan

What you get

A database we provision, back up and upgrade, on the same private network as the app that uses it.

EU data, EU company

Databases run on Hetzner hardware in Helsinki, Finland, and their backups stay with Hetzner in the EU. The operator is MICCI, a Danish company with no US parent — the data and the legal entity are both European.

Nightly off-site backups

A pg_dump every night at 02:00 UTC, compressed and uploaded off-site; the last 7 are kept. Take another on demand, restore one with a click, or download it as a standard dump file to restore anywhere.

High availability, no add-on

On Standard and Pro, Postgres can run as a three-node Patroni cluster — a leader and two replicas, each commit confirmed by at least one. HAProxy keeps the URL stable through a failover. Same price as a single node; in beta, enabled per team.

Linked, not copied

Link the database to a service and its next deploy starts with DATABASE_URL set, plus host, port, user and password under an alias you choose. The database is on the project’s private network, so nobody pastes a password into a dashboard.

External access, TLS only

Off by default. Turn it on and the database gets a stable public host and port that rejects plain-text connections, limited to up to 50 IP ranges if you list them. hoststack db connect opens psql with the credentials filled in.

Upgrades and resizes

PostgreSQL 15 to 18, with a PostGIS or pgvector image if you need one. A single-node database changes plan in place without a restart; storage grows to 1,024 GB; and you run a major version upgrade from the dashboard. Slow queries from pg_stat_statements are on the Insights tab.

From nothing to a connected app, from the CLI:

bash
hoststack db create --project prj_... --name app-db --engine postgres --plan standard
hoststack db link db_... --service svc_... --alias DATABASE
hoststack deploy trigger svc_... # starts with DATABASE_URL set
Plans

Four sizes, one flat price each

Storage and nightly backups are in the price. No compute-hour metering, no seat fee, and no HA add-on.

PlanPer monthMemoryStorage3-node HA
Micro€4256 MB1 GBSingle node only
Starter€7512 MB5 GBSingle node only
Standard€151 GB20 GBAvailable
Pro€504 GB40 GBAvailable

One Starter Postgres per user is free and does not expire. Storage beyond what a plan includes is €0.10/GB-month. MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB and Redis use the same four plans at the same prices; HA and external access are Postgres-only for now. Everything else on the bill is on the pricing page.

Before you choose

What it does not do yet

If one of these is a requirement rather than a preference, we are not the right database for you today.

  • No point-in-time recovery. Backups are nightly dumps, 7 kept, so the worst case is losing up to a day of writes.
  • No read replicas, and no cross-region replication. An HA cluster’s three members run in one region, so a whole-region outage takes it offline.
  • One live region: Helsinki, Finland. Nuremberg and Falkenstein in Germany are planned, not running.
  • HA is in beta, enabled per team on request. Moving an existing database onto a cluster, and in-place major version upgrades, are limited to databases up to 1 GB for now.
  • PostGIS and pgvector databases stay single-node.

Need minutes-not-hours recovery or replicas in another region now? Aiven and DigitalOcean both offer point-in-time recovery and read replicas in other regions; our Aiven and DigitalOcean comparisons say where each one is the better buy.

Before you ask

Managed Postgres questions

Where it runs, what it costs, and how it recovers.

Is HostStack managed Postgres hosted in the EU?

Yes, and so is the company running it. Databases run on Hetzner hardware in Helsinki, Finland, which is our live region today; Nuremberg and Falkenstein in Germany are planned. Nightly backups go to off-site object storage, also with Hetzner in the EU. HostStack is operated by MICCI, a Danish company with no US parent, so the US CLOUD Act does not reach the operator. A data processing agreement is available to every customer at signup.

How much does managed PostgreSQL cost on HostStack?

A flat monthly price per database, with storage and nightly backups included: Micro €4 (256 MB, 1 GB), Starter €7 (512 MB, 5 GB), Standard €15 (1 GB, 20 GB), Pro €50 (4 GB, 40 GB). Extra storage is €0.10/GB-month. There is no compute-hour metering and no seat fee. One Starter Postgres per user is free and does not expire.

Does HostStack Postgres have high availability?

On the Standard (€15/mo) and Pro (€50/mo) plans, PostgreSQL can run as a three-node Patroni cluster: a leader and two replicas, with every commit confirmed by at least one replica. HAProxy keeps the connection URL the same when the leader changes, and notices a new leader within about five seconds. HA costs nothing extra. It is in beta and enabled per team on request, all three members run in one region, and PostGIS and pgvector databases stay single-node.

Does HostStack support point-in-time recovery?

Not yet. Every database is dumped nightly at 02:00 UTC and the last 7 dumps are kept off-site, so the worst case is losing up to a day of writes. You can take an extra backup on demand before a risky migration, restore any of the 7 with one click, or download one as a standard dump file. If your recovery point has to be minutes rather than a day, pick a provider with WAL-based point-in-time recovery, such as Aiven, DigitalOcean or Neon.

Can I connect to the database from outside HostStack?

Yes. A database is private to its project by default; turning on external access gives it a stable public host and port. TLS is enforced, not just offered: a plain-text connection on the public port is rejected. You can restrict it to up to 50 IPv4 or IPv6 ranges, and `hoststack db connect` opens psql with the credentials filled in.

Which PostgreSQL versions and extensions are available?

PostgreSQL 15 to 18, with 18 as the default. A database can be created with the PostGIS or the pgvector image. A major version upgrade runs in place from the dashboard or the CLI: the data is dumped and restored into the new version, with a short interruption, for databases up to 1 GB. Slow queries from pg_stat_statements are shown on the database's Insights tab.
